POETRY
& SONG LYRICS
My PD at WNEW-AM, Quincy McCoy--with whom I shared
an office--was fond of quoting Gil Scott-Heron's The Revolution Will
Not Be Televised. One day in June of 1988, I couldn't get it out of
my head...until I got it out on my piano.
"Sonnet For A Stadium" was written on 19 November 1988, as
my sisters and I travelled past Shea Stadium on the Grand Central Parkway,
on our way back to New Jersey from Long Island.
